Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where standard rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations within a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another serious issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women may also become involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness due to addiction problems than males because of this. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which provide treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender-specific issues which may have triggered their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities which offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
