Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven beneficial in circumstances where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in the women's life which are unique and distressing. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has shown that women could also get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of drug abuse problems than males consequently. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, rehab services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol rehab programs that provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender-specific problems which may have prompted their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from their female peers, and several programs that offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for her children.
