Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven worthwhile in situations where standard rehabilitation facilities have fallen short, for example coping with situations within a women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another significant issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also get embroiled in substance abuse more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a result of dependency problems than males as a result. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed rehabs, drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender-specific issues who have triggered their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and several centers that provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their children.
