Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug abuse, or risky sexual behavior due to substance abuse might have caused to contract the disease. People who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing problem prior to their substance abuse issue, often require rehab services tailored to meet their particular needs and problems. Many of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely take care of themselves and take the proper medicines they need to maintain their health. Consequently, they arrive to treatment in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while addressing other important issues. Apart from the obvious requirement to deliver medical services whilst in rehabilitation, those that have HIV/AIDS should also address more deeply rooted problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Frequently, people have conditions within their lives that are strictly environmental which may have caused them to use alcohol or drugs, like oppressive circumstances in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the concerns which rehabilitation counselors will target as part of HIV/AIDS rehab services.
