Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This can be a very hard and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel relaxed within a traditional rehabilitation facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which must be resolved to enable them to get better. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for substance abuse, and it is an illustration of something will be resolved in rehabilitation.
