Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to take part in treatment services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug treatment program. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune possibility, it isn't for everybody. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services part-time every day or a few days a week. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is really a very small number of clients. For a person with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug treatment facilities which provide rehab over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehabilitation alternative.
