Unfortunately, it's true that millions of people decide to drive a vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs. This not just puts one's life in danger and puts passengers among others at risk as well, but being caught driving drunk (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) will more often than not bring about severe penalties including driver's license suspension or cancellation, monetary penalties and even time in jail. Sometimes a person who has been found guilty of DUI or DWI ultimately struggles with an underlying substance abuse challenge. A legal court system understands this, and it is therefore inclined to offer DUI and DWI Offenders drug treatment rather than other severe penalties because of their crime. Agreeing or obliging to participate in drug treatment as a DUI/DWI Offender may not completely eradicate other consequences from the crime, but sometimes decrease the severity of such consequences to a large degree. Particularly if the individual willingly participates in alcohol and drug treatment and is also a first time offender. Studies show that a large proportion of folks who do receive alcohol and drug rehabilitation for a DUI/DWI offense avoid the court system for comparable charges in the future.
