Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would normally have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab program. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People that do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehab services part-time every day or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is usually a very small number of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs that provide treatment on a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab choice.
