Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehab client to participate in treatment services without the commitment you might ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug treatment center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to solve significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services part-time on a daily basis or a few days per week. This is often helpful for those who have just completed a more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For a person with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which offer treatment on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehabilitation option.
