Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to take part in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation center. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to resolve substantial substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis every day or a few days each week. This is helpful for many who have just completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is usually a very small amount of clients. For a person with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug rehab programs that provide rehab over a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial rehabilitation choice.
