Hearing impaired persons generally have a heightened risk of drug use issues due to their impairment, and rehab services must be available which serves their circumstances. People who are hearing impaired can seem to be alone, unmotivated, and goalless because of the impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then opt to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the emotional and psychological challenges that come with having this handicap in everyday life.
