Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where standard rehab facilities have fallen short, such as dealing with situations in the women's life which are unique and painful. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other significant issues which can be specific to women. Research has shown that women can also become involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to illness due to dependency problems than males consequently. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, rehab services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed rehabs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which provide rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender specific problems who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the constructive support from other female peers, plus some programs that offer treatment services to women provide client beds for her kids.
