Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in situations where traditional rehab settings have fallen short, such as coping with situations inside a women's life that are distinctive and traumatic. Such difficulties may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other serious issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women also can become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness because of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug and alcohol rehab facilities that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both standard and gender specific problems who have prompted their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few centers that provide treatment services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
