TRICARE is health care insurance that is provided to members of the armed forces of the United States. Substance abuse within the military is more common than one would imagine, and the necessity to provide rehabilitation to these individuals is a priority. TRICARE covers many different rehabilitation services to handle drug and alcohol dependence including detox services, as well as rehabilitation in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient programs. People with TRICARE will of course be required to obtain a prior approval before taking part in any type of rehabilitation service, which can be organized with their regional TRICARE representative. If an inpatient center will be the preferred rehab option, TRICARE will cover a three week period or one inpatient stay in this center per benefit period which is every 12 months. There are particular limits about how much time a TRICARE member can stay in an inpatient program that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30 to 45 day window which is covered. TRICARE also covers family treatment which is often very beneficial, as it may help include family members in the healing and process of recovery.
