Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab should they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the treatment client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug treatment program. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis daily or several days a week. This can be very helpful for many who have just completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small amount of clients. For a person with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities which offer rehabilitation over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehabilitation alternative.
