Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People that do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time every day or a few days each week. This is often helpful for many who have just completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is really a very small percentage of clients. For someone with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facilities that provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous treatment option.
