LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the particular needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially depraved. This is often a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel safe in a traditional rehab center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT rehab provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which must be resolved to be able to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family, in case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and it is an illustration of something which would be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence in order to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
