Criminal justice client rehabs are available as a significantly better option than time in jail or heavy fines for those who have already been convicted of any type of alcohol or drug related crime. For instance, somebody who has been found guilty of driving drunk of drugs or alcohol may be eligible to receive rehabilitation services for problem instead of serving time in prison. The judge might even order the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or along with other sentencing. First time offenders in particular in many cases are given the opportunity to choose a criminal justice client rehab as an alternative to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it if it's an alternative. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is far more effective and efficient to invest time and effort into rehabilitation than punishment. Much research has been completed to see how effective this process is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following treatment. The signs and indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients that take part in treatment have a better chance of remaining out of the system following rehabilitation.
