Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in situations where traditional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in the women's life which are unique and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other serious issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women also can become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and are more vulnerable to illness as a result of dependency problems than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Comparable to coed centers, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women target both general and gender-specific concerns which may have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few centers which offer rehab services to women provide client beds for their kids.
