LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This may be an extremely tough or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT may not feel comfortable inside a traditional rehab program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be handled to be able to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family, in the event their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and it is an illustration of something which could be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life clear of alcohol and drugs.
