Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab whenever they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to resolve significant substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will ordinarily attend meetings and be a part of counseling and rehab services part-time every day or several days a week. This is often helpful for those who have recently completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a short history of drug abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer rehab on a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab option.
