LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and considered socially depraved. This can be a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to numb this pain. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel safe inside a traditional rehabilitation center amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment that is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be handled so that they can get better. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, which is a good example of something which can be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a healthy life free of alcohol and drugs.
